First time negotiating an offer with equity? Do your homework!

What was the difference between RSUs in one offer and Stock Options in another? Is 10k more options worth $10,000 less base pay?

When I transitioned careers into the tech industry, I didn’t know what to make of the equity part of the offer. If you are making a career transition into tech, get smart about this part of the compensation package. It could mean the difference of millions of dollars over time!

Be prepared to negotiate. Annual statistics tell us, just like cash compensation, with equity compensation women and minorities make a fraction of what others do. Understand the offer, and ask for what you are worth.

Stocks are never a guarantee of value. But, I’ve seen PMs, Sales people, and Customer Success managers pay for houses with their stocks after working for the right company for a few years.
